About Me

I have been working with networks, done application development and implementing and testing security on these things for the past 25 years of my life. I love the rush of breaking things and understanding why they break and making it better in the next iteration.

Even if I don’t release every single line of code, I strongly believe in open source: Believing in open source means believing in collaboration, transparency, and shared progress. Open source software invites people from around the world to contribute their ideas, improve functionality, and fix issues - together. This collective intelligence leads to more secure, reliable, and innovative software and infrastructure.

Open source also empowers individuals and organizations to learn from real-world code, adapt it to their needs, and avoid vendor lock-in. It nurtures a spirit of community over competition, where knowledge is a shared resource—not a guarded secret. Supporting open source means investing in a more inclusive, trustworthy, and sustainable digital future.

2014 - Present

As part of my voluntary work, I founded the non-profit association Freifunk Regensburg e.V. and am responsible for developing the router firmware as well as contributing to network administration. Freifunk Regensburg is building a free, open, and cost-free Wi-Fi network for Regensburg and the surrounding area. People from Regensburg have come together to form a charitable organization with the goal of providing everyone with access to the internet. To achieve this, we use affordable Wi-Fi devices to share unused internet capacity and ensure legal security for participants. Everyone is welcome to get involved.
